Communications Summer Intern (Print/web design)

The SSRC seeks a part-time intern to work in the Communications Department, under the supervision of the Communications Coordinator. This is an excellent opportunity to learn practices in the field of communications, particularly in a nonprofit environment. A work reference will be provided upon completion of this internship.

Founded in 1923, the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization, devoted to the advancement of interdisciplinary research in the social sciences. It seeks to bring necessary knowledge to public issues through a wide variety of interdisciplinary workshops and conferences, fellowships and grants, summer training institutes, scholarly exchanges, research consortia and publications. The SSRC seeks a part-time intern to work in the Communications Department, under the supervision of the Communications Coordinator. This is an excellent opportunity to learn practices in the field of communications, particularly in a nonprofit environment. A work reference will be provided upon completion of this internship.
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in design, communications, or related field.
Interest in international and public affairs a plus.
Graduate students preferred, but will consider highly motivated third and fourth year undergrads.
Ability to take direction and to work autonomously when necessary.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite programs; knowledge of HTML/CSS a plus.
Responsibilities
Assisting with print products for the Council’s various programs, including posters, brochures, invitations, etc.
Designing web products, including HTML emails.
Assisting with visuals for the SSRC’s new Web site.
Other communications duties depending on interest/need.
Terms, Salary and Benefits
The position will be part-time, approximately 20 hours per week for two months, beginning in mid-June and lasting through mid-August 2009 (specific start and end dates are flexible). A monthly stipend of up to $1,000 will be provided for expenses.
