Summary

The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is an independent, international nonprofit organization devoted to the advancement of interdisciplinary research in the social sciences through a wide variety of workshops and conferences, fellowships and grants, summer training institutes, scholarly exchanges, research, and publications.

Description

The Editorial/Program Assistant will work closely with the Program Director of the new Digital Culture Initiative. The Council’s exploratory initiative seeks to assess a range of transformations associated with digitization, digital media, and related technological developments, and to critically evaluate the implications of these changes for the production, circulation, and consumption of knowledge and culture. The initiative will engage, and draw on the expertise of, university scholars, book and journal publishers, communications specialists, editors, librarians, journalists, bloggers, data analysts, and others in order to investigate both new challenges and promising possibilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of arts or sciences degree.
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
• Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize daily activities to meet competing deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), database management, and web applications.
• Previous editorial experience and/or familiarity with web publishing and social media preferred.

Responsibilities

• Copyediting and editing according to standards of Chicago Manual, APA, MLA, etc.
• Providing organizational assistance with digital and print publications.
• Assisting with program outreach and handling requests for information.
• Organizing logistical details for program workshops, meetings, and conferences.
• Providing additional support for program workshops and meetings (e.g., taking meeting notes, writing up meeting summaries, etc.).
• Updating program website and program materials.
• Writing and research assistance.
• Assisting with financial budgets and expense accounts.
• Performing administrative tasks including, but not limited to, file maintenance, preparation of meeting materials, and creation and maintenance of databases and spreadsheets.
• Additional responsibilities and projects as directed, depending on interest and capacity.

Terms, Salary and Benefits

Annual salary of $30,000. Comprehensive benefits include health, dental, vision, disability, life, and gym reimbursement; $1,500 annual tuition and/or student loan reimbursement; outstanding pension plan and tax savings programs; generous vacation and sick leave; and more.
