Summary
The Gender, Crisis Prevention, and Recovery (G-CPR) project at the Social Science Research Council seeks interns for our online research hub and database. Developed in collaboration with the Consortium on Gender, Security and Human Rights, the research hub includes an online participatory research agenda which will frame a comprehensive vision of the critical research questions in the field of gender and CPR.
Description
The Gender, Crisis Prevention, and Recovery (G-CPR) project at the Social Science Research Council seeks interns for our online research hub and database. Developed in collaboration with the Consortium on Gender, Security and Human Rights, the research hub includes an online participatory research agenda which will frame a comprehensive vision of the critical research questions in the field of gender and CPR. The hub will also provide the first centralized, publicly accessible world class collection of documents on gender and security. Using field mapping software, major fields of inquiry will be linked to relevant researchers and research projects as well as to the most relevant published research.
This internship will provide the chance to be a part of an interesting and exciting project, as well as an opportunity to learn more about the field of gender and security. Training will be provided for conducting background research, as well as working with and entering information into a Research Hub. Interns will also have the opportunity to network and meet other students interested in the field of gender, peace and security. Upon successful completion of the assignment, interns will receive a letter of recommendation.
Qualifications
Undergraduate students or recent graduates preferred.
Ability to work independently and manage time and workload with minimal supervision.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Experience with excel and database programs.
Knowledge of a second language preferred.
Interest in gender and security issues, with some knowledge of the field a plus.
Responsibilities
Gather relevant data to organize in the database.
Perform specific searches for institutions and projects, as assigned.
Expand the database to map relevant people, institutions and projects in the field of gender and security research.
Terms, Salary and Benefits
This internship requires a minimum of at least 4 hours per week on average for up to four months, beginning in mid-June and lasting through mid-September 2009 (specific start and end dates are flexible). Interns will be trained at the SSRC offices in mid-June.
