Project Consultant: AIDS, Security and Conflict Initiative

Summary

The SSRC HIV/AIDS Program is accepting applications for a short-term project focused specifically on managing the roll-out and closure of a multi-year international research collaboration on AIDS, Security and Conflict. The Consultant will report to the Program Director and Senior Adviser and work with other program staff. For more information about the project, please refer to the ASCI web site asci.ssrc.org.

Description

The consultant will establish and manage a peer-review process of 30 commissioned research papers. The consultant will be expected to manage the compilation, editing and publishing of the final report, as well as provide research assistance; writing and editing as needed. Additionally, the consultant will organize international launches of the final report in the Netherlands and New York. This will include organizing briefings with UN agencies and other international bodies within the field of peace, security, and humanitarian affairs in Geneva, New York, and Washington DC. Additional duties include financial management, donor reporting and maintaining the ASCI website and newsletter.

Qualifications

Applicants should have familiarity with humanitarian, security, peacekeeping and HIV/AIDS related policy issues and academic literature. Ideally, applicants wills have experience working with the UN system, humanitarian organizations and/or uniformed services. Project management experience is a must. This project requires excellent written and oral communication skills. Research, analytical and organizational skills are also required. Minimum of 5 years experience. Masters Degree in International Relations, Public Health or a related field preferred.

This consultancy will take place starting immediately and will last up to June 30th, 2009. Payment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
