Summer Internship | Communications
Summary
The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is an independent, nonprofit international organization founded in 1923. Based in Brooklyn, New York, it mobilizes researchers, policymakers, professionals, activists, and other experts from the private and public sectors to develop innovative approaches to issues of critical social importance. The SSRC seeks a summer intern to work with the Communications Department.
Description
This internship offers the opportunity to strategize and collaborate with the department in supporting a range of program areas and is the perfect position for a student interested in burnishing his or her public relations and web publishing credentials. This internship will provide hands-on, practical experience in developing and maintaining content for the Web, reporting on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) data, managing databases, supporting SSRC systems and hardware, and coordinating outreach campaigns with the Communications team and other SSRC staff.
The minimum time commitment is three months part-time, preferably starting June 2013. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Qualifications
• Current pursuit of a graduate degree in communications, journalism, the social sciences, public policy, or international affairs (though advanced undergraduates and recent graduates will also be considered).
• Prior experience using social media in an organizational setting and writing for generalized audiences.
• Experience in online content management, especially WordPress.
• Basic HTML skills (CSS and other languages a plus).
• Copyediting experience a plus.
• Strong academic background and excellent writing skills.
Responsibilities
• Assist in the day-to-day maintenance of the ssrc.org website.
• Prepare digital collections for publication.
• Monitor and provide regular reviews of social media analytics.
• Research industry standards, tools, and resources.
• Potentially write short texts for inclusion in reports.
Terms, Salary and Benefits
While this is an unpaid internship, we provide a monthly stipend for travel and expenses.
