		<description>Dr. de Waal,

I wonder, if political Islam "lacks the theoretical tools to tackle the challenges of governing a complex society" (reason four), then is the racism of the elite (reason three) a way of compensating for that? Are there Islamists who could come to power who have a different racial outlook? And where is this "disease" most catching? Is it definitely propagated in the popular culture and media, perhaps in Arabic sources more so than English ones?

(Also, by the way, I appreciated your thoughtful response to my comments on your lecture to the Royal African Society; I suppose you're right that we had similar main points in looking at the situation, though I still maintain that we might have a serious policy disagreement).

Regards,

Daniel
