Ruth Braunstein

Ruth Braunstein is the assistant editor of The Immanent Frame. A research assistant for both the NYU Institute for Public Knowledge and the SSRC (where she works on projects on Religion and the Public Sphere), she is also a Ph.D. candidate in the department of sociology at New York University (where she is studying political sociology and religion). She received her B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, with a focus on international culture and politics.

Varieties of secularism in a secular age

On April 4-5, the SSRC will co-sponsor a conference at Yale University on Varieties of Secularism in a Secular Age. Saad Eddin Ibrahim to speak at NYU

Saad Eddin Ibrahim, the Egyptian-American sociologist and human rights activist, cannot return to his home in Egypt, for fear of arrest and imprisonment. In the meantime, Ibrahim has been traveling extensively to promote his vision of democracy and human rights. One of his next stops is New York University, where he will discuss Secularism, Religion, and Human Rights with SSRC President Craig Calhoun. [...]
