Brian Howell

Brian Howell is Associate Professor of Anthropology at Wheaton College (IL). He is the author of Christianity in the Local Context (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008) and is currently working on a book tentatively entitled Christians without Borders about the phenomenon of short-term missions among U.S. Evangelicals. An article based on that research has appeared in the November 2007 issues of the Journal of Communication and Religion and another is forthcoming in the International Bulletin of Missionary Research in 2009.

The global evangelical

Evangelicals, contra their isolationist or xenophobic image, have become a well-traveled group, going to places usually reserved for anthropologists and peace corps volunteers. This new globalism constitutes a distinctly different movement from the Christian globalism of the past.
