2009-2010 CGP-SSRC Policy Forum on the Environment and Climate

April 19^th–20^th 2009

The overarching theme of this forum will be the environment and climate change. The forum will focus on issues of energy saving and the reduction of air pollution and CO2 emissions within a city-level framework. Goal The goal of this forum will be to elucidate environmental challenges and offer policy recommendations and best practices related to energy saving and the reduction of air pollution and CO2 emissions within a city-level framework. Rather than seeking to impact national-level policies, the forum will work for change at the local level by engaging local-level policy actors and officials in an exploration of best practices and major challenges. The focus might be on mid-size cities with populations of approximately 200,000 in developing Asian countries. In addition to the broad issues discussed above, the forum will necessarily engage the intersecting issues of transportation, urban planning, and social campaigning (i.e. how to win people over to necessary change).
