Abe Fellowship Colloquium - "Shaping Global Health Strategy: The Case of H1N1"

The unprecedented complexity of the H1N1 outbreak has sparked an international reexamination of strategies and problem solving. Concerted cooperation and communication across national borders are essential to deal with unpredictable threats. Mika Shimizu (2008 Abe Fellow) discussed the priority of responses to the pandemic in Japan and the United States, as well as in other multilateral health and security frameworks. Shimizu is currently a visiting scholar at the East-West Center in Hawaii. Takahiro Suzuki, Chuo University, moderated the program, and Naoki Kondo (2007 Abe Fellow), Yamanashi University, was the discussant. Abe Fellowship Colloquia are jointly sponsored by the Social Science Research Council Tokyo Office and the Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership.
