Authority, Community, Identity

The goal of this consultation was to identify themes, methods and possible participants for a working group that will spend three years examining the ways that Catholic, Muslim and secular actors conceptualize, organize, institutionalize and communicate, to themselves and to outsiders, the relationship among these three defining elements (authority, community, identity) of associational life and public presence. In keeping with Contending Modernities' constructive agenda, the meeting aimed to provide guidance for the potential working group as it attempted to identify creative responses to the challenges of community and to discover within or across their borders unformulated or underdeveloped “growing ends” of the argument for belonging.
