Engaging Stakeholder Meetings

SSRC Vietnam Program Staff, an SSRC Board of Directors member, a former SSRC Board member, and an SSRC Vietnam based consultant recently met with the Vice Chair (Deputy Governor) of the Thai Nguyen Province People's Committee and the heads of the provincial health, social welfare, heatlh insurance and statistics departments. SSRC staff provided an overview of our past and current activities in Vietnam, including the population health study that took place in Thai Nguyen provinces, and how we can use the data to provide information and an evidence base for the province in making health-related decisions and interventions. The provincial authorities openly discussed the province's current health situations, areas where they need better knowledge or understanding, and their major challenges. There was also a meeting to discuss social science health related activities and areas for collaboration with the Vice Rector of Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Heads and senior researchers of the Faculty of Public Health. Introductions and an overview of SSRC and the University were made, and many common areas for collaboration were identified in strenghtehing social sicence knowledege and in public and health training, strengthening research capacity among faculty members and engaging with stakeholders.
