CPPF facilitated the participation of a representative of UN DPA, Europe Division at the meeting hosted by the International Drug Policy Consortium (IDPC) and the Serviço de Intervençao nos Comportamentos Aditivos e nas Dependências (SICAD) on “Where next for Europe on drug policy reform?” in Lisbon, Portugal.

CPPF convened a meeting on women’s political participation in Asia and the Pacific inspired by a CPPF commissioned paper on gender in Asia and the Pacific by Jacqui True and her team. The meeting drew on three main themes: women’s political participation; women’s participation in public life; and recommendations for the UN to enhance its role in supporting women in the region.

A conference to discuss perspectives on United Nations peacemaking, peacekeeping, and peacebuilding with scholars and policymakers from Africa, China, and the West. Hosted at the Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), the two-day conference was convened by the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), the Quaker United Nations Office (QUNO), and the Social Science Research Council (SSRC).The conference sought to share perspectives and explore changes in UN practice in these areas, specifically aiming to develop new and constructive linkages between UN efforts and China on matters of conflict response as China continues to enhance its contributions in this area.

Bill O’Neill carried out field research in Bahrain from 2-9 March, focusing on the status of judicial and police reform and possible future UN projects to support peace and reconciliation. This research is part of CPPF’s on-going work on Bahrain, which included a similar visit by O’Neill followed by a briefing to senior UN officials in headquarters, and a CPPF meeting on Bahrain in May 2012. We expect similar activities after his return.
