Leon Sigal on U.S.-North Korea Relations

At a time when North Korea was in the news because of Bill Clinton's dramatic visit to Pyongyang--the first high-level U.S. contact with North Korea in nearly a decade--SSRC communications intern Hannah Hammel spoke with SSRC program director Leon Sigal about the strategy he favors for normalizing relations with the so-called "axis of evil" power, Kim Jong-il's likely succession plan, and an up-to-date assessment of the food situation in that country. Sigal runs the SSRC's Northeast Asia Cooperative Security Project.
