Bio

Jacinta Chiamaka Nwaka is a trained historian from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. She teaches Nigerian and African history in the Department of History and International Studies, University of Benin, Nigeria. Her research focus is on social and religious history with a special interest in the history of religious conflict and conflict management in Nigeria and Africa. In addition to her PhD research, which was on religion and conflict management in the Nigeria-Biafra War, she has published over sixteen journal articles and book chapters on religion, conflict, and conflict management in Nigeria and Africa. Dr. Nwaka has won a number of fellowships and prominent awards, including: the United Nation’s University for Peace (UPeace)/IDRC Doctoral Fellowship, 2008-2010 and the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Postdoctoral Fellowship, 2011/2012. She has participated in a number of workshops and discourses, among which are: the Eight Berlin Round Table; Workshop on Methodology of Peace Research, Addis-Ababa, 2010; CODESRIA Methodological Workshops; ACLS Manuscript Development Workshop, Kampala, 2015; and a host of others. She is a 2016 recipient of the Social Science Research Council’s African Peacebuilding Network’s Individual Research Grant.
