The Social Science Research Council is pleased to announce the Predissertation Fellowship for International Collaboration (PFIC). Graduate students from the humanities or social sciences who are currently enrolled in a PhD program at an accredited university in the United States are eligible to apply. Applicants must remain at the predissertation level throughout the fellowship tenure. Fellowships may include up to three months of dedicated research and/or training outside of the United States.
PFIC specifically emphasizes the importance of international collaboration on dissertation projects that involve international field research. Selected fellows will be expected to conduct their research and/or training under the supervision of a scholar in a country of their choice outside of the United States. This collaboration will provide valuable insights on the viability of the proposed dissertation project, and on its relevance, salience and reception in the region of study. PFIC will also provide fellows with a network of professional contacts in preparation for future dissertation field work, equally emphasizing regional knowledge and approaches, alongside the training provided by the fellow's home university and primary advisor.
The PFIC application is only available online, and can be accessed by clicking on the link to the SSRC's main Online Application Portal. You can also download a complete set of Award Guidlines & Instructions by clicking the link to the right of this page.
Please contact program staff at pfic@ssrc.org if you have additional questions.
Full funding for this fellowship and related activities is provided by the Ford Foundation.
