Japan Program

The SSRC offers two research programs open to scholars interested in Japan.

  1. The SSRC administers the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowship Program for ABD's and Recent Ph.D.'s

Please note: Applications for the short term fellowship will be accepted from applicants who are within 2 years of finishing their Ph.D. degree or have received their Ph.D. within 6 years prior to April 2008. Financial support is provided in yen by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and varies according to the duration of the fellowship term.
    Application Deadline: December 1 Annually

  2. The Abe Fellowship Program encourages international multidisciplinary research on topics of pressing global concern. The program fosters the development of a new generation of researchers interested in policy-relevant topics of long-range importance and willing to become key members of a bilateral and global research network built around such topics. The key objectives of the program support these commitments by fostering high-quality research on policy-relevant topics, building new collaborative networks, promoting comparative or transnational lines of inquiry, and ensuring that the results of this research reach a wide group of policy makers and the public at large. Now in its 18th year, the Abe Fellowship Program includes three core elements, the Abe Fellowship, the Abe Fellowship for Journalists, and the CGP-SSRC Policy Forum.
    Application Deadline: September 1 Annually
