Program Assistant, International Dissertation Research Fellowship Program

The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is a not-for-profit organization devoted to the advancement of interdisciplinary research in the social sciences. It does this through a wide variety of workshops and conferences, fellowships and grants, summer training institutes, scholarly exchanges, and publications.

The SSRC invites applications for the position of program assistant for the International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF). Funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, this program is designed to support distinguished doctoral candidates in the humanities and social sciences seeking to conduct dissertation research in all areas and regions of the world. With up to seventy-five fellowships awarded annually, the IDRF is one of the largest dissertation fellowship programs in the US.

Duties

  • Serve as primary contact for a cohort of fellows, including regular correspondence and document collection.
  • Answer telephone and email inquiries from prospective applicants.
  • Maintain program website.
  • Update online application system and provide administrative support for application review process.
  • Organize and manage logistics for conferences, workshops, and meetings, both on- and off-site.
  • Process payment requests for fellows, vendors, and program partners.
  • Manage database and paper files for applicants, fellows, and contacts.
  • Assist in production of program outreach materials.
  • Other duties and projects as directed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts degree.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Access.
  • Experience and/or familiarity with website or database maintenance.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Salary & Benefits

Annual salary of $28,000. Comprehensive benefits include health, dental, vision, disability, life, and gym reimbursement; $1,500 annual tuition and/or student loan reimbursement; outstanding pension plan and tax savings programs; generous vacation and sick leave; and more.

The position will start August 11, 2008.
