Founded in 1923, the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization, devoted to the advancement of interdisciplinary research in the social sciences. It seeks to bring necessary knowledge to public issues through a wide variety of interdisciplinary workshops and conferences, fellowships and grants, summer training institutes, scholarly exchanges, research consortia and publications. The SSRC seeks a Program Coordinator to work in the President’s office, on the development of new projects. This position will report directly to the President and will have the opportunity to work closely with other senior members of the Administrative staff.
General Duties
- Administer projects run directly from the President’s Office including conceptualizing and coordinating meetings.
- Aid in the preparation of new proposals and help to identify additional opportunities with funders.
- Partner across program areas as directed by the Office of the President to engage in collaborative special initiatives.
- Operational management, including in support of teams of outside researchers.
- Responsible for overall effective organization (including logistics, communication, and reporting) of some existing projects.
- Work with communications and editorial staff to coordinate web and print publications.
- Liaise with funders and various research and academic institutions.
- Research, writing and editing as needed.
- Other duties as directed by the President
Requirements
- Masters Degree in the social sciences or a related field preferred.
- Relevant experience in a non-profit environment and/or academic setting a plus.
- Ability to manage diverse tasks simultaneously with attention to detail.
- Self motivated with the ability to follow through on projects.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, and experience working for executives and with academics.
- Strong analytical skills and a proactive work style.
- Exemplary written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and event planning skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Ability to work well independently, as well as cooperatively with others.
- Knowledge of MS Office applications, including Access, plus Internet research skills.
