The Social Science Research Council (SSRC), a not-for-profit organization devoted to the advancement of social science research and scholarship, seeks a Program Director to lead efforts to enhance graduate education and research in the social sciences. The Program Director will guide the newly created Dissertation Proposal Development Fellowship Program (DPDF) the International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF) Program, and the development of new projects and programs.
The DPDF program is designed to help early stage graduate students formulate more effective doctoral dissertation proposals in key specific areas. The IDRF program supports dissertation research on international topics by graduate students throughout the social sciences and humanities. In addition to working with these programs, the Program Director will be expected to take initiative in the development of new projects and programs to fill needs in the career trajectories of scholars in the U.S., and to advance graduate education in the humanities and social sciences.
The best qualified candidates will have a Ph.D. in one of the social sciences and at least 8 years relevant experience and professional accomplishment. Candidates must understand trends and challenges in graduate education in the U.S. and have a keen interest in tracking these trends and improving research and training in the academy in order to support graduate students and post doctoral research. Knowledge of fellowship programs and related capacity building efforts is a plus as is interdisciplinary knowledge of the social sciences.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to think innovatively, creatively and programmatically while working collaboratively, managing multiple priorities and projects effectively and leading and supervising staff teams. This position requires energy, enthusiasm, strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to undertake a modest amount of travel domestically and internationally.
Annual salary will be commensurate with experience. Comprehensive benefits include health, dental, vision, disability, life, and gym reimbursement; outstanding pension plan and tax savings programs; generous vacation and sick leave; and more. Provisions are made for professional staff to continue their development as professional social scientists while at the Council.
To apply, candidates must send a detailed letter of application, curriculum vitae and three references. Please also submit copies of two professional, published, writing samples.
