The SSRC Finance Department seeks a Senior Accountant to have overall responsibility for the General Ledger System. This position will report directly to the Finance Manager and will work closely with the Council’s Senior Financial Advisor, in the Council’s Staten Island Finance Office.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly financial statements
  • Account for investment activities--equity, fixed income, mutual funds and hedge funds
  • Prepare bank reconciliations
  • Monitoring and analysis of non-grants accounts receivable
  • Assist in coordinating accounts payable and payroll process
  • Coordinate monthly general ledger closing schedule
  • Allocate costs to programs and grants on a monthly basis
  • Review transaction data for accuracy, adequateness of documentation and conformity to chart of accounts
  • Responsible for operation of Fundware Accounts Payable and General Ledger software modules.
  • Coordinate cash forecasting process
  • Maintain fixed assets and depreciation subsidiary accounting
  • Assist in coordinating year end audit, including preparation of schedules and other documents for auditors.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS Degree in relevant discipline
  • Approximately 3-5 years of accounting experience, some working in nonprofit and/or governmental environments and familiarity with investment accounting operations
  • Very strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage numerous projects simultaneously
  • Advanced computer knowledge: Excel and/or 123, Access, PowerPoint, MS Word and Nonprofit accounting systems

Salary and Benefits

Salary will be $50,000 - $55,000.
