A message from SSRC President Calhoun and Executive Director McDonnell on the earthquake and tsunami in Japan

The recent earthquake, tsunami, and related troubles in Japan have drawn the attention and the sympathy of the world. The SSRC joins in expressing our heartfelt condolences to all those who have lost family and loved ones, our concern for those who continue to deal with trauma and hardship, and our support for the ongoing relief efforts. We are relieved to report that SSRC/Abe Fellows and staff in the region are all accounted for and OK. We continue to be in contact with them as the situation develops. To those in our larger network of colleagues and friends in Japan who have been a part of our lives over the past forty years: be safe, we are thinking of you. We recommend the Japan NGO Earthquake Relief and Recovery Fund for anyone wishing to contribute to relief efforts. Other donation options are listed at the Lede blog/New York Times.
