A Moving Experience

The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is relocating its headquarters to One Pierrepont Plaza in Brooklyn Heights. The SSRC's New York-based staff, numbering around eighty, will begin reporting for work at the new 25,000 square feet space on December 22, 2008.

Since 1995, the Council's home has been at 810 Seventh Ave. in Manhattan. Both management and staff said they look forward to the change of location. According to SSRC President Craig Calhoun, the new office space has been custom designed "to suit Council's needs for creative, intellectual interaction."

"It's a cool, fun neighborhood, which is important for staff morale, adds to the creative feel, and is a great place to invite international guests," he said. "Lots of our staff already live in Brooklyn, and we bring hundreds of researchers from all over the world to meetings focused on key social issues. A Brooklyn Heights location provides convenient access to all of New York as well as a great working environment for these visitors."

Completed in 1989, One Pierrepont Plaza was the first new office building to open in Downtown Brooklyn in more than 25 years. The 725,000-square-foot, 19-story building’s other tenants include Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and the General Services Administration.
