The world has been managing the global AIDS epidemic for more than twenty-five years. The year 2031 will mark fifty years since the first report of AIDS. In 2007 then executive director of UNAIDS Peter Piot established AIDS2031 to bring together experts in HIV/AIDS and related fields to examine the likely trajectory of the pandemic and what would be required to sustain a global response over the coming twenty-five years. The SSRC's HIV/AIDS Program is assisting with this effort by commissioning research and convening meetings on HIV/AIDS, drugs, and crime. Some of our recommendations will appear in the AIDS2031 report, An Agenda for the Future, due out in late 2009.
