This page is an attempt by the PAE staff to categorize Internet resources that economics graduate students might find particularly useful or interesting. We welcome feedback on this page, especially suggestions that will help us to expand and/or organize it more effectively. All comments and suggestions can be emailed to the program at pae@ssrc.org .

Resources for Economists on the Internet
AEA-sponsored general resource and information site for economists. Includes information and links to data, forecasting tools, departments and universities, upcoming meetings, job postings and academic advice.

WebEc
WebEc is an effort to categorize free information in economics on the Web. The links are organized by subject area, i.e., quantitative methods, international economics, finance, labor economics, law and economics, and many more.

Economics Departments on the Internet
Listing of U.S. and Canadian Economics departments and links to their websites, organized alphabetically.

Inomics
Inomics is tailored to the needs of economists, with an economics search engine and announcements of conferences and job openings. The conference and employment searches are highly international, and organized by JEL classification.

Funding Resources

Grant Support for Economists Links to funding databases, foundations, government sources, and all manner of advice and funding news from the AEA.

The Foundation Center
Provides information about numerous charitable foundations and institutions, and offers guidance on applying for grants and fellowships. Also includes downloadable common applications for regional grant makers.

National Science Foundation Division of Social and Economic Sciences
Arm of the NSF for grants in the Social Sciences. Includes application materials, information on awards, guidelines for applying, and projects currently being funded.

Illinois Researcher Information Service (IRIS)
Funding database from the University of Illinois (access only for participating institutions; check here to see if your university is a member).

Grad Grants
Academic grant and fellowship information from the University of Indiana.

Community of Science
Funding and employment databases for the social, natural, and behavioral sciences. The resources are extensive, but fully available only to institutional subscribers (check with your university library). Individuals may join free of charge and gain access to funding updates and newsletters, as well as guides on finding grants and building a CV.

Finaid.org
Information about federal education loans and grants, as well as private scholarships.

Workshops for Graduate Students

Santa Fe Workshop on Computational Economics
The Santa Fe Institute Workshop on Computational Economics brings together a group of advanced graduate students and a small faculty for an intensive two week study of computational economics. The workshop will consist of lectures by faculty, special topic seminars by members of the Santa Fe Institute, and presentations of work in progress by graduate student participants. The primary goal of the summer workshop is to assist graduate students pursuing research agendas which include a computational component. A significant portion of the workshop will be devoted to analyzing and improving research being conducted by the graduate student participants.

Max Planck Summer Institute on Bounded Rationality in Psychology and Economics
From the website: "The summer institute on bounded rationality in psychology and economics intends to counter the still prevailing opposition between the psychological and the rational-an opposition that is, in our view, more constructed than real. Our aim is to put forth a view of decision makers that is anchored in the psychological possibilities of humans rather than in the fictional construct of some homo economicus."

RAND Summer Institute on Aging
The RAND Summer Institute (RSI) on the Demography, Economics, and Epidemiology of Aging is an annual conference that addresses critical issues facing our aging population, which serves as a vehicle to provide additional training to researchers new to the field of aging. Junior faculty, post-doctoral fellows, pre-doctoral candidates who have successfully defended their dissertation proposals, and senior researchers who are new to the field of aging are eligible.

Annual report by the University of Arkansas Center for Business and Economic Research.

Exchange Scholar Program
The Exchange Scholar Program is a consortium of top universities that allows doctoral students enrolled in a participating graduate school to spend time at another so as to take advantage of facilities or resources not available at the home institution. See the website for a list of the participating schools and programs, or check with administration at your university.

Graduate Student Teaching Resource Network
Guide for new TAs from the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Teaching and Learning. Includes advice on what to do on the first day of class, building a website for class, and designing a syllabus, among other things.

Association for Support of Graduate Students
ASGS is a service organization of graduate students, graduate-student organizations, and graduate-degree-granting institutions. ASGS assists students to complete their theses and obtain their degrees, produce the highest quality of theses, and improve their lives during the thesis process.

Organization dedicated to the improvement and advancement of graduate education.

The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research
ICPSR maintains and provides access to a vast archive of social science data for research and instruction, and offers training in quantitative methods to facilitate effective data use.

Luxembourg Income Study
The LIS is a cooperative research project with a membership that includes 25 countries on four continents. The LIS database is a collection of household income surveys. These surveys provide demographic, income and expenditure information on three different levels: household, person and child.
