Applicants will be required to upload a proposal as part of the online application. Below are the guidelines:

Components

Your proposal should consist of:

  • An overview outlining the goals and rationale for the project as you imagine it (approximately 1 page).
  • An explanation of why this planning grant will help you take the project to the stage of a formal proposal. This section should include a description and timeline of the activities you intend to undertake during the period of July 2020 to August 2021. Timelines should account for the SSRC-sponsored development workshop in October/November 2020 and the potential submission of a collaborative research grant proposal for this program’s second round of funding in May 2021 (approximately 2 pages).
  • A discussion of proposed collaborators for this project and the roles they would play in the planning stages of your project, and in the project itself. These may include specific individuals or the kinds of researchers or professionals you envision as crucial to your project (1 page or less).
  • A focused bibliography of the most relevant academic texts (1 page).

Formatting

  • Length: Proposals should be 5 pages.
  • Spacing: The body text should use double spacing; footnotes may use single spacing.
  • Font: Preferred font is Times New Roman, 11-point. A smaller size may be used for footnotes.
