Title VIII Fellowships and Grant

The Title VIII Program, administered by the U.S. Department of State, seeks to build and sustain expertise on the countries of Eurasia and Central and East Europe through grants to national organizations in the U.S., such as the Social Science Research Council's Eurasia Program, for the support of advanced research, training and curriculum development.

Generous support from the Title VIII Program supports a number of SSRC Eurasia Program activities, both at the pre-doctoral and post-doctoral levels, which serve to expand and strengthen the field of Eurasian studies and which include:

Grants under the Title VIII Program are awarded through an open, national competition among applicant organizations and authority for the Program for Research and Training on Eastern Europe and the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union is contained in the Soviet-Eastern European Research and Training Act of 1983 (22 U.S.C. 4501-4508, as amended).
