Building a culture of collaboration between media research and media reform
This page contains historical information and is preserved here as a matter of record.
The program on Necessary Knowledge for a Democratic Public Sphere (NKDPS) works to build a stronger culture of collaboration between researchers, advocates, and activists working on policy and social change issues in the media and communications sector. Begun in 2005, the project featured a Collaborative Grants competition for partnerships between researchers and activists, which funded some 44 projects over three years. Ongoing work includes a Data Consortium for improving the evidentiary basis of policymaking and a Web-based Media Research Hub that maps the complex relations between people, institutions, and resources in the field.
