SSRC-IDRF Book Fellowship Discussion

The SSRC-IDRF Book Fellowship, 2007-2012, was designed to provide editorial guidance and support to junior scholars in the writing and publication of their first scholarly monograph, based on dissertation research conducted while holding an IDRF grant. Each year the fellowship commenced with a workshop in December, during which the fellows met to discuss their projects and begin work with a developmental editor. The authors collaborated with their editor through the rest of the academic year reworking their manuscript for future submission to an academic or scholarly press.

The 2012 competition marked the end of the Book Fellowship. The introductory session of the 2012 workshop was filmed in the hopes that the conversation that transpired – about turning a dissertation into a successful first book, publishing requirements and expectations, and the experiences of published IDRF alumni – would prove useful to other scholars transforming their dissertations into first books.
