Politics of Expertise Program

Working to restore the place of social science research in public discussion and policymaking

This page contains historical information and is preserved here as a matter of record.

The SSRC's Politics of Expertise program examines the emergence of competing forms of expertise that have displaced academic research from the public sphere, and it looks to encourage new initiatives that will help to restore the place of social science research in public discussion and policymaking. Begun in 2007, the program has spawned several related projects, including a think tanks initiative and a project exploring the recent efforts by the Department of Defense to sponsor social science research on U.S. national security issues.
