Teaching Islam in Eurasia - Regional Summer Institutes
This page contains historical information and is preserved here as a matter of record.
As part of its Teaching Islam in Eurasia initiative, the SSRC's Eurasia Program hosted a series of summer institutes (2005-2007) for faculty members from the region and beyond. Each institute featured sessions on a variety of topics, ranging from approaches to Islamic texts to modern Islamic identity and politics. Participants were encouraged to engage in dialogue and the sharing of knowledge, curricula, and expertise, and to work collectively on techniques to ensure that their students will receive a sophisticated, comparative and interdisciplinary understanding of Islam. Institute participants are now collaborating on producing a definitive guide to the teaching of Islam in Eurasia, forthcoming in 2010.
