Women and Peacebuilding

The SSRC's Gender and Security Program provided expert guidance to the Working Group on Lessons-Learned that was created by the UN Peacebuilding Commission with the mandate of considering cross-country perspectives and best practices in peacebuilding. With support from the United Nations Development Fund for Women, we prepared the background discussion paper for the working group's meeting to assess strategies for enhancing women's participation in peacebuilding and for reducing sexual and gender-based violence and exploitation in post-conflict situations. The report contained specific recommendations for the cases of Burundi and Sierra Leone.
