Kiran Bains

Bio

Kiran Bains serves as Research Coordinator for the African Peacebuilding Network and also supports the Next Generation Social Sciences in Africa Program.  Kiran has conducted research in Uganda on female-headed households' access to land, as well as the significance of language in peacebuilding with formerly abducted women and girls.  More recently, Kiran worked in northern Uganda on reconciliation issues with farmers returning home from internally displaced persons camps.  Prior to her work in Uganda, Kiran initiated rural and urban development programs with women's self-help groups and informal waste collectors in Bangladesh and India respectively.  Kiran holds an M.A. in Peace Studies, with a minor in Gender Studies, from the University of Notre Dame's Joan B. Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies and an M.A. in Anthropology from the New School for Social Research.
