Selma Scheewe joined the Council in July 2006, and is currently a Program Assistant on Gender, HIV/AIDS and Security. Amongst other things, she is coordinating the HIV/AIDS and Public Health Fellowship Program. Simultaneously, Selma is in the final stages of completing a Masters in Humanitarian Action at the University of Groningen, specializing in sexual violence and HIV/AIDS in conflict areas. Selma has a background in Social Sciences, focusing on development issues and gender. Born and raised in the Netherlands, she has extensive work experience with various Dutch NGOs. Selma also worked with The AIDS Support Organisation (TASO) in Uganda in the food distribution program for people living with HIV and AIDS. In addition, she worked as a consultant for Africa Humanitarian Action (AHA) where she provided technical advise on the integration of gender-based violence in AHA programs and carried out field assessments in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Rwanda.
