Mary-Lea Cox is SSRC’s new communications director. She has had many years of experience in the communications field, including, most recently, serving as editorial director in Columbia University’s Office of Communications and Public Affairs and as communications director for the Carnegie Council. Mary-Lea worked for the SSRC once before, as the first Tokyo-based administrator for the Abe Fellowship Program. She received a PhD in government from the University of Essex, Colchester, England. Her doctoral thesis—on women, politics and Shakespeare—received the Sir Ernest Barker Prize for best in political theory, from the Political Studies Association of Great Britain.
