Srirupa Roy is program officer/senior adviser to the South Asia Program and also works on International Research Collaboration. Her research and teaching interests focus on the comparative politics of nationalism and state-formation; secularism and religious politics in the Middle East and South Asia; and visual culture/visual politics. She has received fellowships and grants from the SSRC-MacArthur Foundation Program on International Peace and Security; the SSRC's Middle East and North Africa Program; and a Rockefeller Residential Humanities Fellowship from the International Center for Advanced Studies at New York University. In 2006-07 she will conduct field research for a new project on media and democracy in India as a senior fellow of the American Institute of Indian Studies.

Roy is also associate professor of political science at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She is the author of Beyond Belief: India and the politics of postcolonial nationalism (Duke University Press, forthcoming 2007); co-editor (with Amrita Basu) of Violence and Democracy in India (Seagull Press, 2006); book chapters; and journal articles published in Comparative Studies in Society and History (2006); Journal of Asian Studies (2006); Contributions to Indian Sociology (2003); Interventions (2002); and South Asia (1999).
