Renata Segura is a Ph.D. student in the political science department, graduate faculty, New School for Social Research. She is currently working on her dissertation, which focuses on the role of civil society and social movements in constitution making in the Andes. She has also written on the contemporary relationship between decentralization and violence in Colombia, her native country. Other academic interests include military reform, democratization and institutional engineering. Renata teaches an undergraduate course on political violence in the 20th century at the Parsons School of Design. Prior to coming to the United States, she worked for a nationally televised news program and a widely-read news magazine.
