Nicole Stahlmann is associate director of the International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF) Program and director of the Council's Fellowships Office. Before receiving her PhD in American Studies from the Johannes Gutenberg University-Mainz (Germany), she was a graduate fellow at Columbia University, a teaching fellow at Bowdoin College and an Erasmus scholar at the Rijksuniversiteit, Gent (Belgium). Dr. Stahlmann's research interests include theories of transnationalism, transculturation and migration, with a specific focus on the Caribbean diaspora. She is currently completing the manuscript for a monograph, entitled New Caribbean York: The Transnational Poetics of Caribbean Literature (forthcoming, Universitaetsverlag Heidelberg). She has also written articles on detective fiction and popular music. Before joining the SSRC, Dr. Stahlmann helped establish the Center for Jazz Studies at Columbia University and worked as its program officer for two years.
