Selma Scheewe

Bio

Selma Scheewe joined the Council as an intern in July 2006. After a period of field work abroad, she returned to the Council in November 2008 and is currently a Program Coordinator on Gender, HIV/AIDS and Security. Her primary involvement at the Council is with the Global Research Centre on Gender, Crisis Prevention and Recovery. Selma holds a Masters degree in Humanitarian Action from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, where she wrote her thesis on sexual violence and HIV/AIDS in conflict areas. Selma worked with various organizations in the Netherlands as well as in Africa, including as The AIDS Support Organization (TASO) and UNFPA, both in Uganda. She also conducted a consultancy for Africa Humanitarian Action (AHA) on the preventing and responding to gender-based violence in AHA programs, including field assessments in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Rwanda. Most recently, before rejoining the Council, she worked as a Research and Training Officer for the Gender Unit of the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Congo (MONUC).
