Salim Hmimnat  holds a Ph.D in political science and a BA in cultural studies from Mohammed V University in Rabat. He has been working since 2012 as a research fellow at the Institute of African Studies (IEA) at the same university. His current research focuses on two interrelated areas: the first one dealing with the interactions between Islamist movements, the religious policies, and modernization process in contemporary Morocco and the second area dealing with the preventive and counter-violent extremism strategies in North Africa and the Sahel. He is the author of “The Religious Policy in Morocco (1984-2002): State’s Fundamentalism and Challenges of Authoritarian Modernisation” [in Arabic], Afrique Orient, 2018. His latest article, “‘Spiritual security’ as a (meta)political strategy to compete over regional leadership: formation of Morocco’s transnational religious policy towards Africa,” recently published in The Journal of North African Studies
