BioEvgenia An is a PhD candidate in the department of Sociology at Goethe University (Frankfurt, Germany) and works in the Interdisciplinary Center of East Asian Studies as a research assistant.
Her research interests lie in the intersection of several disciplines, namely sociology of migration, diaspora studies and East Asian welfare systems. Her dissertation focuses on the decision-making patterns of post-Soviet Korean labor migrants in South Korea and the role of formal and informal social protection strategies in the settlement practices.
Evgenia has earned her BA degree in International Relations from KIMEP University (Almaty, Kazakhstan) and her MA Degree in Modern East Asian Studies from Goethe University, Frankfurt. As a master student Evgenia spent an exchange semester at Chung-Ang University (Seoul, South Korea 2014/2015) to conduct field research, worked as a research assistant at Inha University, Incheon (Summer 2015) and as a research consultant for the project "Korea´s engagement in Central Asian Region" at Central European University, Budapest (Hungary) (2016/2017).
