Bio

Mohammed Dejen Assen was born in 1978 in Wollo, Ethiopia. He obtained a BA degree in history in 2000, MA in 2009 and PhD in federalism and governance studies from Addis Ababa University, in 2016. He also received LLB degree from Mekelle University in 2012. Currently, he is an assistant professor at the College of Law and Governance Studies of Addis Ababa University. His research interests include; the interaction between law and religion, religion and human rights, federalism, minority rights, secularism, politics and governance in Africa, ethnicity and identity politics in Ethiopia, etc. He was a visiting researcher at the African Studies Center (ASC), University of Leiden (the Netherlands), in 2012 and 2018.
