Bio

Dereje Feyissa Dori holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from Martin Luther University, Germany. He has held post-doctoral positions at the University of Osaka, Japan and at the Max Planck Institute of Social Anthropology, Halle, Germany. He has been an experienced researcher fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation since 2011. Currently, Dr. Dereje Feyissa is an Associate Professor in the College of Law and Governance, Addis Ababa University. His research areas of interest are conflict and conflict resolution practices; borders and transnationalism; the political economy of development; and religion and politics. He has authored two books and co-edited three others, as well as published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to edited volumes. Dr. Dereje has also consulted for the Ethiopian government and international organizations on peace and development related issues. His APN-supported research focused on the protracted conflict between the Afar and Issa communities in eastern Ethiopia and why the various attempts to resolve the conflict have failed to be effective. He is a 2016 recipient of the Social Science Research Council’s African Peacebuilding Network’s Individual Research Grant.
