Bio

Linnet Hamasi is a lecturer at Kenyatta University after previously working at Kisii University and the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. She holds a PhD in peace and conflict studies from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), Kenya. She had earlier received a Bachelor’s Degree from Kenyatta University and a Master’s Degree from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA). Her doctoral dissertation on Women’s Knowledge Systems and Peacebuilding among the Pastoral Communities of Kenya with a focus on Elgeyo Marakwet County, Kenya makes a compelling case to policymakers for the need to decentralize the UNSCR 1325 to the grass root in order to achieve sustainable peace. Dr. Hamasi has published many books and articles in reputable journals. She has had visiting fellowships taking her to Sweden and Norway and is the Chief Executive Officer for the Nairobi-based Centre for Democracy Research and Development (CEDRED) and African Interdisciplinary Studies Association (AISA).  She serves on the editorial boards of the Journal ofPpopular Education in Africa (JOPEA) and the Journal of African Interdisciplinary Studies (JAIS).
Dr. Hamasi was a Guest Researcher at the Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) in Sweden where she carried out a study on Radicalization of Women and Girls in Kenya and Implications for Peace and Security in Kenya, which explored the new trends of terrorism.
