The third Core Group Meeting of the CGP-SSRC Policy Forum on the Environment and Climate Change was held at the International House of Japan, Tokyo, February 28 - March 1, 2011. Our third meeting once again brought the Core Group Members together for the presentation of case studies. In addition, participants included potential stakeholders from developing Asian countries, such as city level managers in charge of environmental issues, local NGO representatives, and central level policy makers/advisors, who provided important feedback on knowledge transfer to Asia.
The second Core Group Meeting of the CGP-SSRC Policy Forum on the Environment and Climate Change was held at the International House of Japan, Tokyo, in March 2010. Our second meeting once again brought the Core Group Members together with the goal of selecting final case studies. Case studies presented at the meeting included the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, environmental management promotion by local governments, green buildings and building codes, urban unpaving and greening projects, and others.
The overarching theme of this forum is the environment and climate change with a focus on issues of energy saving and the reduction of air pollution and CO2 emissions within a city-level framework. The goal of the initial Core Group Meeting held at the International House of Japan, Tokyo, in April 2009, was to set a long-term agenda for the policy forum by identifying key issues and challenges to cities in the face of environmental degradation, exploring potential case studies, defining the target audience, and determining the goals and outputs of the forum. Discussions at this Core Group Meeting set the focus of the forum on second and third-tier cities in Asia.
