  • 2.Updates from the Central African Republic: Fresh Concerns and Lingering Challenges

    On October 20, the Central African Policy forum convened a meeting entitled "Updates from the Central African Republic: Fresh Concerns and Lingering Challenges" with briefings from Fiona Mangan, Country Representative in the Central African Republic, at U.S. Institute of Peace and Igor Acko, Program Specialist in the Central African Republic, U.S. Institute of Peace at the Security Council Report. Participants discussed the evolving conflict dynamics in CAR, and recommendations to reduce inter-communal tensions and violence. CPPF's Deputy Director Tatiana Carayannis served as the moderator for the discussion, while Yale University's Louisa Lombard offered her perspective as a discussant.

  • 4.The State of the Central African Republic, with President Samba-Panza

    On 28 September 2015, the Central African Policy Forum co-hosted a briefing with Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) on "The State of the Central African Republic" with President Catherine Samba-Panza, on the margins of the UN General Assembly. After the president provided some introductory remarks on the current conditions in Bangui and across the country, participants from NGOs, the United Nations Secretariat and members states offered a series of comments and questions. The Conflict Prevention and Peace Forum's Deputy Director Tatiana Carayannis, and HD's Regional Director of Francophone Africa, Alexandre Liebeskind, facilitated the event.     Between 30 July and 5 August 2014, the Conflict Prevention and Peace Forum convened a series of expert brainstormings with members of the DRC Affinity Group on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Great Lakes Region. The meetings were meant to help inform a regional risk assessment and conflict analysis, the next steps in the implementation of the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework (PSCF) and in support of the Security Council’s call for a broader strategic review of UN engagement in the DRC. Between 30 July and 5 August 2014, the Conflict Prevention and Peace Forum convened a series of expert brainstormings with members of the DRC Affinity Group on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Great Lakes Region.     On 10 December, Affinity Group members Tatiana Carayannis, Pascal Kambale, and Koen Vlassenroot participated in a day-long conference on national reforms, security, and regional conflict dynamics in the DRC, hosted by the Royal Institute for International Relations on 10 December 2013, at the Egmont Palace in Brussels, Belgium. Carayannis presented on a panel focused on the regional and international responses to the governance and security challenges in the DRC.
