• 1.DRC and the Great Lakes Region of Africa (New York)

    Between 30 July and 5 August 2014, the Conflict Prevention and Peace Forum convened a series of expert brainstormings with members of the DRC Affinity Group on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Great Lakes Region. The meetings were meant to help inform a regional risk assessment and conflict analysis, the next steps in the implementation of the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework (PSCF) and in support of the Security Council’s call for a broader strategic review of UN engagement in the DRC.   • 2.DRC Affinity Group in Kinshasa

    Members of the DRC Affinity Group traveled to Kinshasa during the week of 16-21 March 2014, for a series of meetings and workshops with political actors from the Congolese government, civil society and the international community to discuss the electoral process and armed groups.

  • 3.Affinity Group members participate in a conference on the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) at the Egmont Palace, Brussels

    On 10 December, Affinity Group members Tatiana Carayannis, Pascal Kambale, and Koen Vlassenroot participated in a day-long conference on national reforms, security, and regional conflict dynamics in the DRC, hosted by the Royal Institute for International Relations on 10 December 2013, at the Egmont Palace in Brussels, Belgium. Carayannis presented on a panel focused on the regional and international responses to the governance and security challenges in the DRC.

  • 4.DRC AG Members present RVI Usalama reports at workshop in Kinshasa

    DRC Affinity Group member and Director of the Rift Valley Institute’s Usalama Project, Jason Stearns, co-hosted a three-day workshop in Kinshasa to discuss the project’s various research reports on armed groups, their policy considerations and the challenges to demobilization and security sector reform.     Members of the DRC Affinity Group took part in a brainstorming with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Great Lakes Region of Africa, Mrs. Mary Robinson, to take stock and discuss the next steps for the continued implementation of the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework for the Democratic Republic of Congo and the region.   • 6.DRCAG members take part in a CPPF briefing for the newly appointed UN Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region

    Members of the DRC Affinity Group were called to Dublin to participate in a CPPF brainstorming on the Great Lakes region of Africa in support of the new UN Secretary General's Special Envoy to the Great Lakes.

  • 7.DRCAG members, Federico Borello and Mvemba Dizolele brief U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations

    On 16 April 2013, DRC Affinity Group members Federico Borello and Mvemba Dizolele were called in front of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Subcommittee on African Affairs to testify as part of a hearing titled "Examining Ongoing Conflict in Eastern Congo." The proceedings were led by U.S. Senator Chris Coons of Delaware.

  • 8.DRCAG members take part in EU External Action workshop on the Great Lakes/Eastern DRC

    DRC Affinity Group members Tatiana Carayannis, Koen Vlassenroot and Michel Kassa were asked to participate in a two workshop on the Great Lakes Region and Eastern DRC. The core objectives of the workshop were to better understand the root causes of conflict, analyze past interventions, and identify options for further EU engagement.
