Amana Kaskazi is program officer for the Social Science Research Council's Just Tech program. She joins the Council as a 2021 ACLS Leading Edge Fellow. She received her PhD from Rutgers University’s School of Communication, Information and Media. She also holds a Masters degree in Library and Information Science, which she earned from the University of Michigan in 2014, and a Bachelors of Arts degree in Communication from the Pennsylvania State University in 2013. Amana's research is rooted in mediated communication, social impact, and centers around understanding and developing ways in which information and communication technologies enable new pathways to political and civic engagement for various stakeholders. Other research interests include understanding the social phenomena that occur in the interrelation of citizens, journalists, and government interactions over the web. Her dissertation utilized qualitative and quantitative methods to explore the connections between information and communication technology use and participatory political and civic action by marginalized teens in New York City.
