Spirituality, Political Engagement, and Public Life

This page contains historical information and is preserved here as a matter of record. This project operated at the SSRC from 2009-01-01 to 2012-11-30.

With support from the Ford Foundation, the SSRC has engaged in an effort to trace the contours of emergent forms of practice, expression, and association marked as "spiritual"—often in opposition to "religion"—and to draw out their implications for patterns of civic activity and political participation in the United States. The project continues its work through Frequencies, an ambitious web-based collection of written entries and visual artwork that seeks to assemble a collaborative genealogy of spirituality.
