The SSRC is excited to announce the 2026 cohort of fellows for the African Peacebuilding and Developmental Dynamics (APDD) program.

This year’s cohort will conduct expert research on diverse topics and how they relate to peacebuilding in Africa, such as:

• Natural Resource Conflict, Peace, and Security
• Culture, Theater, and Music
• Gender, Youth, and Identity
• Social Dynamics and Drivers of Conflict and Peace
• Climate Change and Energy Transitions

This year, the APDD has awarded 9 Individual Research Fellowships, 4 Dissertation Proposal Fellowships, 8 Dissertation Research Fellowships, 6 Dissertation Completion Fellowships, and 1 Research Policy Fellowship.

This cohort reflects APDD’s commitment to advancing diverse and innovative African scholarship across the continent by established, emerging, and early career scholars. Our fellows represent a wide range of disciplines, regions, and scholarly approaches— underlining the program’s commitment to gender equity, cross-regional inclusion, policy engaged research, and institutional collaboration.

We are grateful to the Andrew Carnegie Foundation for their continuous support, enabling us to foster an inclusive, ever-expanding community of emerging and established scholars throughout Africa. Since 2012, with their support, we have given out over 800 fellowship awards to African scholars on the continent.
